In the olden days, talking about oneโ€™s sexuality or physical needs was a taboo. People who were gays, lesbians or transgender were scorned by the society and they were not considered to be a part of the normal social order. They did not have any rights and were thus forced to live a life of celibacy. If a man or woman was forthright about their sexual preferences, they were outcast from society. Till some years back, the scenario did not change in favor of LGBT communities [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender].

But in recent times, many lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people have slowly started coming out of the closet and admitting their sexuality to themselves and the society. Many countries have now legalized homosexuality and this has made the gay, transgender, bisexual and lesbian community to rejoice. Most recently, the Asian country of India which is home to Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, and Jews too has legalized homosexuality.

Why do we consider LGBT communities as weird or abnormal? Just because there are certain laid down rules which say that opposites attract does not necessarily mean that it should work the same for everybody. Should we judge the worth of a human just because he belongs to gay society? What concerns two consenting adults should be nobody elseโ€™s business. Homosexuals, bisexuals and transgender all contribute equally to society. They are not a burden on anybody. Who are we to discriminate against them?

People who do not accept their sexuality suffer from stress and anxiety and lead double lives. Homosexuality is not a disease or curse that one should repent having. Every human being is unique. If God created you a certain way then you must have some role in the larger scheme of things. Be proud of who you are first. Follow your inner voice and make decisions based on your beliefs. Free yourself from societyโ€™s notion of what is right or wrong. Love yourself and then the world will love you.

There are many celebrities like Elton John, Lindsay Lohan etc who are speaking openly about their sexuality and this has made others bold too.

So if you are one of the LGBT communities and have set yourself free by accepting yourself as you are, here is good news for you.
